Vegas Open Network Cloud is a self-hosted community collaboration platform located at https://cloud.vonet.org. It’s powered by Nextcloud and serves as the central hub for file sharing, video calls, project coordination, and more.

Purpose

Vegas Open Network Cloud exists to support community collaboration without relying on corporate platforms like Microsoft OneDrive, Teams, or Google Drive. It gives us full control over our data and communication tools, keeping everything local, accessible, and resilient.

Features

  • **File Storage & Sharing** - Easily upload, organize, and share files across the community.
  • **Video Calls** - Secure, browser-based meetings through the built-in Nextcloud Talk app.
  • **Calendar & Tasks** - Schedule events, assign tasks, and stay organized together.
  • **Notes & Collaboration Docs** - Create and edit documents directly in the cloud.
  • **Access from Anywhere** - Reachable through the web at cloud.vonet.org, with mobile and desktop clients available.

Why Self-Hosted?

By self-hosting our cloud, we:

  • Avoid vendor lock-in and corporate surveillance
  • Keep control over our data and access
  • Ensure our tools work reliably, even during major internet outages
  • Support local infrastructure and decentralized systems

Offline Resilience

Even if the wider internet goes down, the Vegas mesh network will still be able to access our cloud resources locally. This makes it a key part of our local digital infrastructure, especially for critical files and coordination during emergencies or network disruptions.
