Jacob Kukuk
Founder and Executive Director of VONet
Jacob Kukuk is the founder of VONet, a nonprofit project working to build a fair, community-owned internet in Las Vegas. With over 15 years of experience in IT and infrastructure, Jacob’s career has focused on building systems that empower people and solve real-world problems.
He launched VONet in July 2025 to address digital inequality in underserved communities. Inspired by the NYC Mesh model and guided by the Network Commons License, VONet is designed to be open, decentralized, and run by the people who use it.
Background
Jacob has led technology efforts across public, private, and nonprofit sectors—modernizing operations, building secure networks, and developing tools to support education, civic engagement, and public services.
His work reflects a strong belief that internet access is a basic right, not a luxury. He’s committed to building transparent, inclusive systems that respond to local needs and expand opportunity.
Role at VONet
As Executive Director, Jacob:
- Leads organizational strategy and community partnerships
- Oversees technical planning and network architecture
- Coordinates with the Advisory Council and Project Team
- Ensures the network remains aligned with its mission and values

Jacob lives in Las Vegas with his wife and four children. His work is driven by a vision of a more equitable digital future—one where people control the infrastructure they rely on.
