VONet will establish an Advisory Council after a fiscal sponsorship agreement is in place. The council will support long-term planning, help keep us mission-focused, and provide accountability as the network grows.

What It’s For

The Advisory Council will be created to:

  • Help guide major decisions as VONet expands
  • Keep the project aligned with its mission and values
  • Support transparency, especially around partnerships and funding
  • Offer input from both community members and outside advisors
  • Ensure we stay in line with any requirements set by our fiscal sponsor

This group won’t run day-to-day operations but will provide insight and feedback to help VONet grow responsibly.

Why It’s Important

As we begin building infrastructure, forming partnerships, and accepting support, it’s important to stay grounded in our original goals:

  • Community-owned and operated
  • Transparent and non-commercial
  • Focused on access, equity, and reliability

The Advisory Council will help keep that vision intact and make sure we don’t lose sight of it during growth.

When Will It Form?

The Advisory Council will be formed **after** we finalize our relationship with a fiscal sponsor. Once that’s in place, we’ll:

  • Share the proposed structure of the council
  • Invite interest from community members, partners, and advisors
  • Publish how the group will operate and meet

Who Might Be Involved?

We imagine the council including:

  • Active community volunteers
  • Technical advisors familiar with mesh networking or internet infrastructure
  • Representatives from aligned nonprofit groups
  • Individuals with experience in digital equity or public benefit work

Status

Planning phase. This page will be updated when the fiscal sponsor is confirmed and the Advisory Council process begins.
